The 3M Unitek Open-Close Instrument is a dual sided hand instrument designed for use with Clarity Ultra Self-Ligating Brackets, allowing the orthodontist or assistant to open and close the bracket's clip mechanism during archwire placement, adjustment or removal appointments. Because self-ligating brackets rely on an integrated clip rather than a separate ligature to hold the archwire in the slot, having an instrument specifically shaped for that clip helps make wire changes quicker and more controlled during routine adjustment visits.
The dual sided design gives the clinician a dedicated end for opening the clip and another for closing it, reducing the need to switch between multiple instruments during a single chairside procedure.
