3M Unitek Lingual Buttons, Flat or Curved Base
Lingual buttons available in flat-based or curved-based styles, welded onto orthodontic bands to provide a lingual attachment point for elastics.
Unitek Lingual Buttons are small button-shaped attachments used on the lingual surface of an orthodontic band, giving the clinician a point to tie a ligature or hook an elastic when treatment mechanics call for engagement on the tongue-facing side of the tooth rather than the buccal or labial side. They are offered in two base styles, flat-based and curved-based, so the attachment chosen can better match the surface contour of the specific band it is being welded onto, supporting a closer fit and more secure weld than a single generic base shape would allow across all band types.
Lingual attachments like this are used whenever a treatment plan requires anchorage or elastic engagement from the lingual aspect, which can arise in a range of mechanics including cross elastics, rotational correction or certain anchorage strategies that rely on force applied from the tongue side of the arch.
This product line is transitioning from the Unitek Lingual Buttons name to the Solventum Lingual Buttons line as the manufacturer updates its branding, while the flat and curved base options continue to be offered under the new name. Practices banding molars keep a stock of these buttons as a routine attachment option.
