The Unitek Combination Lingual Hook/Seating Lugs attachment brings together two functions in a single piece welded onto an orthodontic band, giving the clinician an elastic attachment point along with a built-in seating aid on the same component. Elastics can be hooked from the mesial, distal or occlusal direction depending on the mechanics required for a given case, giving the treating orthodontist flexibility in how the hook is engaged without needing a different attachment for each elastic direction.
The straight occlusal edge on the piece is specifically shaped to assist with band seating, meaning the same attachment used for elastics also gives the operator a defined surface to apply pressure against when driving the band fully into place during banding. Smooth edges throughout the design are intended to protect against tissue irritation, a consistent detail across 3M Unitek's band attachment range given how much time these components spend in direct contact with the cheek and gum tissue.
The piece is also strip scored, allowing for easy breakaway from a length of strip stock during lab or chairside preparation. This product is transitioning to the Solventum Combination Lingual Hooks name as part of the manufacturer's broader rebranding.
