3M AlastiK Separator Modules for Tooth Separation
Loose elastomeric separator modules used to create space between adjacent teeth ahead of orthodontic band fitting.
3M AlastiK Separator Modules are small elastomeric rings placed between adjacent teeth to create the space needed before an orthodontic band can be fitted around a molar or other tooth. Orthodontists insert the separator a few days before the banding appointment, and the gentle, sustained pressure it applies gradually opens up the contact point between the teeth so the band can slide into place without excessive force.
This is a routine, low-cost step in many fixed appliance treatment plans, particularly for patients receiving molar bands as part of their appliance rather than bonded attachments alone. The separator modules are supplied loose, so the clinician places them individually with a separating plier or floss technique rather than dispensing them from a chain.
As a single-use consumable removed once its job is done, practices order separator modules regularly to keep pace with new banding appointments.
