Synthetic Cast Padding, Non-Woven Polyester
A non-woven polyester cast padding that is porous, conformable and easy to tear, used as an underlayment beneath plaster or synthetic casting tape. It is a standard item in dental and medical practice.
This synthetic cast padding is a non-woven polyester material used as an underlayment beneath a cast, applied to the limb before the plaster or fiberglass casting tape is wrapped over it. Its role is to cushion and protect the skin from the rigid casting material above, distribute pressure more evenly around the limb, and allow air to move through the layers, since the padding is described as porous.
Being highly conformable, it follows the contours of the limb closely, helping the finished cast fit snugly without leaving gaps or loose areas that could reduce support or cause rubbing. Despite being conformable and soft, it is also strong, and it tears easily by hand, which makes it quick to apply and trim to length during the casting procedure.
This padding is suitable for use with all casting materials, both plaster and synthetic, giving clinicians flexibility in which casting tape they pair it with. Orthopedic clinicians and cast technicians use this padding routinely whenever a cast is being applied in hospitals, clinics and orthopedic practices.
