Sklar Trelat Ligature Needle, Curved Hook
A 9 inch ligature needle with a strong curved hook, used to pass suture or ligature material around vessels and tissue during surgery.
The Sklar Trelat Ligature Needle carries a strong curved hook tip, giving it more holding power when catching and drawing ligature material through or around tissue compared with a straight or gently curved needle. At nine inches, it is sized for general surgical use where a vessel, duct or tissue bundle needs to be encircled for ligation.
This robust hook design suits situations where the tissue being worked around offers more resistance, such as thicker fascia or a firmer vascular pedicle, which a finer aneurysm needle might not manage as reliably. General and vascular surgeons in hospital operating theatres use this instrument whenever a controlled, blunt passage behind tissue is preferred over direct sharp dissection.
As a reusable stainless steel instrument, it is cleaned, inspected and steam sterilized between cases as part of a general surgery tray, typically stocked alongside other ligature needles of varying curve and hook strength.
