Sklar Smith-Buie Rectal Retractor, 75x23mm
A 75 by 23mm rectal retractor used to hold the rectal wall open, giving the surgeon a clear working field during anorectal procedures.
The Sklar Smith-Buie Rectal Retractor is used in colorectal and general surgery to hold the anal canal and lower rectum open so the surgeon can work with a clear, unobstructed view. Its blade measures 75 by 23 millimetres, a size suited to standard anorectal procedures without the bulk of a larger retractor.
Retractors of this design are used during hemorrhoidectomy, fissure repair, fistula surgery and other anorectal work performed in hospital operating theatres, colorectal clinics and day surgery centres. Colorectal and general surgeons typically hold the retractor themselves or hand it to an assistant once positioned, depending on the stage of the procedure.
Being a reusable stainless steel instrument, it is cleaned, inspected and steam sterilized between patients according to the facility's standard reprocessing protocol for surgical retractors, and is commonly stocked alongside other anorectal instruments as part of a proctology set.
