Sklar Sims Rectal Speculum, Fenestrated
A fenestrated rectal speculum with a set screw, used to hold the rectal canal open for visual examination and minor anorectal procedures.
The Sklar Sims Rectal Speculum is used to open and hold the rectal canal so the clinician can inspect the mucosa or carry out a minor procedure. It has a fenestrated blade, meaning it is open along its length rather than solid, which improves the view of the tissue being examined, and a set screw that lets the operator lock the blades at the required opening without holding constant hand pressure.
This speculum is used in colorectal and general surgery clinics, gastroenterology practices and general practice settings wherever a direct visual or instrumental examination of the anal canal and lower rectum is needed. Colorectal surgeons, general surgeons and gastroenterologists are the typical users, often supported by a nurse who assists with positioning.
As a reusable stainless steel instrument, it is cleaned and sterilized between patients following the practice's standard reprocessing protocol for reusable examination instruments.
