Sklar Nicola Raspatory, Slightly Curved, 8-1/4 Inch
An 8-1/4 inch raspatory from Sklar with a slightly curved tip, used to lift and separate periosteum from bone during orthopaedic and neurosurgical work.
The Sklar Nicola Raspatory is a periosteal elevator with a slightly curved tip used to lift and separate periosteum and other soft tissue from the surface of bone during surgery. Surgeons use raspatories of this kind wherever bone needs to be exposed cleanly before drilling, cutting or other bony work, sliding the curved edge along the bone surface to peel tissue away without tearing it.
The gentle curve of this particular tip is suited to working around more rounded bone contours, an advantage in neurosurgical and cranial procedures where the raspatory associated with the Nicola instrument set is commonly used. Measuring 8-1/4 inches, it gives the surgeon enough reach for deeper surgical fields while remaining easy to control with hand pressure alone.
Neurosurgical departments, orthopaedic units and other specialties performing bone exposure procedures typically keep raspatories in a range of curvatures as part of their standard instrument trays.
