Sklar Nelaton Grooved Director, 6-1/4 Inch
A grooved director from Sklar measuring 6-1/4 inches, used to guide a scalpel blade or probe safely through tissue during incisions and dissection.
The Sklar Nelaton Grooved Director is a simple hand instrument with a shallow groove running along its length, used to guide a scalpel blade or probe safely through tissue while protecting deeper structures from accidental injury. Surgeons place the director along the intended line of an incision or dissection, then run the blade along the groove so the cut follows a controlled path rather than plunging freely into tissue.
This makes the instrument useful whenever a controlled, shallow incision is needed near sensitive structures, such as during minor surgery, fistula work or general procedures involving fascia. Measuring 6-1/4 inches, it is sized for hand held use in a typical surgical field. Grooved directors are a longstanding, basic instrument found in most general surgery trays, and hospitals and clinics performing open procedures generally keep several on hand as part of their standard instrument sets.
