Sklar Moynihan Gallstone Probes, 13 Inch
A 13 inch probe used to explore the bile duct and locate gallstones or obstructions during open biliary surgical procedures.
The Sklar Moynihan Gallstone Probes are used during open biliary surgery to explore the common bile duct, helping the surgeon feel for stones, strictures or other sources of obstruction before deciding on the next step in the procedure, whether that is stone retrieval with a scoop or forceps, or further dilation of the duct.
Exploring the duct with a probe before instrumenting it further allows the surgeon to build a mental picture of the duct's contents and calibre, reducing the risk of unexpected findings later in the case. General surgeons and hepatobiliary specialists use this probe as part of a dedicated common bile duct exploration set, alongside dilators, scoops and forceps built for the same procedures.
It measures 13 inches overall, a length suited to reaching deep into the biliary tree through an open abdominal incision. This listing is a single configuration. As with other Sklar surgical instruments, it is manufactured from surgical stainless steel and intended for repeated cleaning and sterilisation between cases.
