Sklar Millin Bladder Retractor, Complete F.O.
A fiber optic self retaining retractor with lateral and central blades, used to expose the bladder during open urological surgery.
The Sklar Millin Bladder Retractor is a complete self retaining retractor system used in open urological surgery to hold the surgical margins apart around the bladder and pelvis, giving the surgeon steady, hands free exposure throughout a lengthy procedure. This configuration is supplied complete with fiber optic illumination, two pairs of lateral blades measuring 57mm by 25mm and 80mm by 25mm, and a single central blade measuring 120mm by 45mm, offering a wider set of blade combinations than a system supplied with lateral blades alone, so the surgical team can adjust exposure at several points around the field simultaneously.
The fiber optic component channels light directly to the depth of the pelvic field, where ambient overhead light alone often does not reach effectively. Urologists use retractor systems of this type during open bladder and prostate procedures as a standard part of their instrument set. As with other Sklar surgical instruments, the metal components are intended for repeated cleaning and sterilisation between cases, with the fiber optic element checked for damage before each use.
