Sklar Merit Mouth Gag, Small, Lightweight
A small, lightweight mouth gag used to hold a small mammal's mouth open safely during veterinary dental examinations and procedures.
The Sklar Merit Mouth Gag is a self retaining instrument used to keep an animal's mouth open during a veterinary dental examination or procedure, allowing the clinician to work with both hands free rather than manually holding the jaws apart. This listing is the small, lightweight pattern designed specifically for use on small mammals such as rabbits, rodents and other exotic patients, where a standard sized gag intended for cats or dogs would be too large or heavy for the patient's jaw structure.
A separate large size is also available for bigger patients, giving veterinary staff a choice matched to the size of the animal being treated. Careful selection of gag size matters in small mammal dentistry, since these patients often have fragile jaws that can be injured by excessive or poorly distributed opening force.
This instrument is used by exotic animal and small mammal veterinarians during dental checks, molar trimming and extraction procedures. Constructed for repeated clinical use, it can be cleaned and sterilised between patients following standard veterinary infection control practice. It is typically stocked in exotic animal veterinary dental kits.
