Sklar Merit EKG Caliper
A hand caliper used to measure intervals and distances directly on a printed EKG trace, supporting manual interpretation of cardiac rhythm.
The Sklar Merit EKG Caliper is a simple mechanical tool used to measure distances directly on a printed electrocardiogram trace, helping clinicians assess intervals such as the space between successive heartbeats or the width of a particular waveform. By placing the two points of the caliper on the paper trace, a physician, nurse or cardiac technician can walk the measurement along the strip to check for regularity of rhythm or to compare interval lengths across different sections of the recording, a task that is faster and often more precise than estimating by eye.
This tool remains in routine use in cardiology clinics, emergency departments and general wards wherever printed EKG strips are reviewed as part of patient assessment, even alongside digital monitoring systems. Because it is a purely mechanical measuring instrument, it requires no batteries or calibration beyond normal care of its hinge and points.
Made from metal for durability, it can be wiped clean between uses following standard clinical hygiene practice. It is typically kept at the nursing station or with EKG equipment in cardiac care and general medical units.
