Sklar McBurney Retractor, Fenestrated
A fenestrated retractor used to hold back abdominal wall layers, traditionally associated with appendectomy through a McBurney incision.
The Sklar McBurney Retractor is named for its association with the McBurney incision, a muscle splitting approach historically used for appendectomy, where the retractor is used to hold back the layers of the abdominal wall once the muscle fibres have been separated rather than cut. The fenestrated blade design allows the retractor to grip and hold tissue securely while remaining relatively lightweight, giving the surgical assistant good control when exposing the appendix or other structures accessed through a small, muscle splitting incision.
While surgical approaches have evolved, this retractor pattern remains useful in general surgery whenever a similar limited access incision calls for careful retraction of abdominal wall layers. General surgeons and surgical assistants use it as part of a general abdominal surgery instrument set. It measures 7-1/2 inches overall.
This listing is a single configuration. As with other Sklar surgical instruments, it is manufactured from surgical stainless steel for repeated sterilisation and reuse.
