Sklar Landolt Reulen Hook, Strongly Angled Blunt
A 10-1/4 inch strongly angled, blunt hook used to retract or lift tissue during fine pituitary and skull base neurosurgical procedures.
The Sklar Landolt Reulen Hook is a neurosurgical instrument measuring 10-1/4 inches with a strongly angled shaft and a blunt tip, designed to reach around structures and gently retract or lift tissue within the narrow surgical corridors used in pituitary and skull base surgery. The pronounced angle allows the surgeon to approach and hook tissue from a direction that a straight instrument could not manage in such a confined space, while the blunt tip is intended to minimize the risk of puncturing or tearing delicate surrounding structures during retraction.
This hook belongs to the Reulen instrument set developed for use alongside the Landolt hypophysectomy system, sharing a consistent length and scale with the accompanying curettes, dissectors and raspatories used in the same procedures. Neurosurgeons performing transsphenoidal pituitary surgery and related skull base approaches use this hook for careful tissue retraction.
As a reusable stainless steel instrument, it should be cleaned and sterilized between cases following standard neurosurgical reprocessing protocols, with the angle and tip checked before use.
