Sklar Hupp Tracheal Retractor, Double End Prong and Hook
A double ended surgical retractor with a three prong end and a hook end, used to hold and expose tracheal tissue during airway procedures.
The Sklar Hupp Tracheal Retractor is a double ended surgical instrument measuring 6 inches, combining a three prong tip at one end and a hook at the other on a single handle. This dual working end design lets the surgeon switch retraction style during a tracheal procedure without changing instruments, using the prongs to hold tissue open at one stage and the hook to lift or steady structures at another.
It is used mainly in head and neck surgery, specifically procedures involving the trachea such as tracheostomy, where clear, stable exposure of the airway tissue is essential. Surgeons and surgical assistants rely on this kind of dedicated retractor because the working area is small and the tissue delicate, so a purpose built shape helps maintain exposure without excessive tension.
As a reusable stainless steel instrument, it must be cleaned and sterilized between cases following standard surgical instrument reprocessing protocols, and the prongs and hook should be checked for alignment before each use.
