Sklar Finochietto Infant Rib Spreader, Steel
A steel Finochietto rib spreader sized for infants, with 1-1/4 by 1-1/4 inch blades, used to hold the ribs apart and maintain access during thoracic surgery.
The Sklar Finochietto Infant Rib Spreader is a steel retractor built to hold the ribs apart and maintain a stable surgical opening during pediatric thoracic procedures. It uses a ratchet mechanism between two blades measuring 1-1/4 by 1-1/4 inches to gradually widen the space between ribs once the chest has been opened, giving the surgical team the working access needed to operate on the heart, lungs or other thoracic structures in an infant patient.
The blades on this model are sold separately from the frame, which is common for rib spreaders of this design since blade size can be matched to the individual patient and procedure. Cardiothoracic and pediatric surgeons rely on rib spreaders as essential retraction equipment whenever a thoracotomy is performed, and the self retaining ratchet design frees the surgical team from having to hold retraction manually throughout the operation, allowing attention to remain on the surgical field itself.
