Sklar Econo Gelpi Retractor, Self-Retaining
A disposable self-retaining retractor with sharp curved prongs, used to hold a surgical incision open hands-free during procedures. Supplied disposable for single use and packed 12 to a unit for routine clinic and hospital stock.
The Econo Gelpi retractor from Sklar is a disposable self-retaining instrument used to hold the edges of a surgical incision apart, freeing the surgical team from needing a dedicated assistant to hold the retraction manually. The two curved, sharply pointed prongs engage the tissue at the incision edges and are locked open by a ratcheted crossbar, keeping the wound exposed at a set width throughout the working portion of the procedure.
At seven inches, the retractor suits moderate-sized incisions common to general and orthopaedic surgery, where a self-retaining device speeds up the workflow and reduces the number of staff needed at the table. Supplied disposable, the retractor is used for a single case and discarded, so the prong points remain sharp and the ratchet mechanism has not been worn down by repeated sterilisation cycles, both of which affect how reliably the retractor holds its position during a long procedure.
General surgery, orthopaedic, and outpatient minor surgery settings commonly keep this instrument stocked as a standard self-retaining retractor for routine incisions.
