Sklar Doyen Rib Raspatory Set, Right and Left
A matched pair of right and left rib raspatories used together to strip periosteum from a rib during thoracic surgery, sold as a two piece set.
This Sklar set combines a right hand and a left hand Doyen Rib Raspatory, each measuring six and a half inches, so a thoracic surgical team has the correct orientation ready for whichever side of the chest a procedure is approached from. The raspatory's curved cutting edge is used to separate the periosteum from the surface of a rib ahead of resection or rib spreading, a step that helps preserve the periosteal layer for later reconstruction and limits unnecessary trauma to surrounding tissue.
Supplying the instrument as a matched pair saves a facility from having to order and track the left and right versions separately, and keeps them together as a set through cleaning, sterilisation and storage. Rib raspatories are used by thoracic and cardiac surgeons and their assistants during thoracotomy, rib resection and related chest wall procedures.
Built in surgical stainless steel, the set is designed for the repeated autoclave cycles typical of a hospital sterile services department.
