Sklar Doyen Rib Raspatory, Adult Right
An adult rib raspatory used to separate periosteum from a rib before resection in thoracic surgery, available in right and left hand patterns.
The Sklar Doyen Rib Raspatory is used during thoracic and chest wall surgery to strip the periosteum, the membrane covering the rib, away from the bone before the rib is cut or removed. Working the raspatory's curved, sharpened edge along the rib separates the periosteum in a controlled way, helping to preserve it for later closure and reducing damage to surrounding soft tissue compared with less precise dissection.
This listing includes four variants, covering both six and a half and seven inch lengths in right and left hand patterns, so a thoracic tray can be built with the correct orientation for each side of the chest. Instruments of this kind are used by thoracic and cardiac surgeons, often alongside a matching rib elevator, during procedures such as thoracotomy, rib resection and chest wall reconstruction.
As a stainless steel surgical instrument, it is intended for repeated cleaning, sterilisation and use across many operations in a hospital theatre setting.
