Sklar Doyen Grooved Director, Curved
A curved stainless steel grooved director that guides a scalpel or probe safely along tissue while an incision is made, protecting the structures beneath it.
The Sklar Doyen Grooved Director is a curved stainless steel instrument used during surgery to guide a scalpel blade or probe along a defined line of tissue. The groove running down its length lets the surgeon cut directly over the instrument, keeping the blade away from nerves, vessels or organs lying just beneath the skin or fascia.
Grooved directors of this pattern are common in general, plastic and minor surgery, where a controlled, shallow incision is needed, and they are also used to pass a probe or suture beneath tissue safely. The instrument is handled by surgeons and surgical assistants and forms part of a standard general instrument set alongside scissors, forceps and retractors.
This particular Sklar director measures five and three quarter inches overall and has a curved profile, suiting procedures where the working area is not in a straight line from the surgeon's hand. It is manufactured in stainless steel for repeated sterilisation and long service life in a hospital or day surgery setting.
