Sklar Caspar Explorer, Right Angle
A 7-3/4 inch right angled probing instrument used to explore and assess tissue planes and bony landmarks during anterior cervical spine surgery.
The Sklar Caspar Explorer is a slender, 7-3/4 inch probing instrument finished with a right angled tip, used by spine surgeons to feel and confirm anatomical landmarks during anterior cervical spine procedures. Before committing to drilling, distraction or graft placement, surgeons often use an explorer like this to check the depth and quality of a prepared space, confirm the boundaries of the disc space, or feel for the posterior longitudinal ligament and adjacent structures without the added visibility risk of a larger instrument.
The right angle bend lets the tip reach into a narrow surgical corridor, such as the one created by a Caspar cervical retractor, while the shaft stays clear of the immediate field. This instrument works alongside the rest of the Caspar system, including the retractor, distractor and bone graft impactor, as part of a coordinated anterior cervical spine surgery set.
Neurosurgeons and orthopedic spine surgeons rely on tactile probing tools of this kind for safety and precision, and the explorer is reprocessed as a reusable stainless steel instrument between cases following standard sterilization protocols.
