Sklar Cairns Brain Spatula, Malleable 10mm
A malleable brain spatula measuring 10mm by 200mm, offered in eight sizes, used to gently retract brain tissue during neurosurgical procedures.
The Sklar Cairns Brain Spatula is a malleable neurosurgical retractor used to gently hold back brain tissue and give the neurosurgeon a stable working corridor during cranial procedures. One size in the range measures ten millimetres wide by two hundred millimetres long with a blade thickness of zero point nine millimetres, and the spatula is offered across eight sizes in total, allowing the surgical team to match blade width to the depth and delicacy of the approach, from small openings to wider craniotomy exposures.
Because brain tissue is extremely sensitive to pressure, the malleable design lets the surgeon bend the spatula to the exact curve needed and hold that shape without springing back, reducing the force required to maintain retraction. This instrument is used by neurosurgeons in cranial and spinal neurosurgery, typically as part of a dedicated neurosurgical retractor set.
Given the delicacy of its use, it is inspected closely for smoothness and cleaned meticulously between cases.
