Sklar Bunnell Tendon Stripper, 3mm Diameter
A 6 inch tendon stripper with a 3mm internal diameter, used to free and harvest a length of tendon for grafting during hand surgery.
The Sklar Bunnell Tendon Stripper is a hand surgery instrument measuring six inches with a three millimetre internal diameter, used to free a tendon from surrounding tissue along its length, typically when a segment of tendon is being harvested for use as a graft elsewhere in the hand or wrist. The tubular design allows the surgeon to slide the stripper along the tendon, separating it from adjacent fascia and paratenon as it advances, which reduces the trauma of freeing the tendon compared with sharp dissection alone.
Its three millimetre bore suits tendons of a size commonly encountered in flexor and extensor tendon procedures. This instrument is used by hand surgeons and orthopaedic surgeons performing tendon transfer or tendon graft procedures, generally as part of a specialised hand surgery tray. As with other reusable fine instruments, it requires careful cleaning to keep its internal channel free of tissue debris before it is sterilised for the next case.
