Sklar Bunnell Dissecting Probe, Angled Tip
A 5-1/2 inch probe with an angled tip used for gentle blunt dissection around tendons and nerves during hand and upper limb surgery.
The Sklar Bunnell Dissecting Probe is a fine surgical probe measuring five and a half inches with an angled tip, used for blunt dissection in hand and upper limb surgery. The angled tip lets the surgeon work around curved or layered structures such as tendons, nerves and small vessels without the need to force the probe in a straight line, which helps in the confined anatomy of the hand and wrist.
Surgeons use blunt dissecting probes like this to separate tissue planes gently, to explore around a structure before it is repaired, or to protect adjacent tissue while a suture or instrument is passed nearby. It is typically used by hand surgeons and orthopaedic surgeons as part of a dedicated hand surgery instrument set, alongside tendon passing probes, fine scissors and small retractors.
Like other reusable fine instruments in this category, it is cleaned, inspected and sterilised between each surgical case to keep its tip and shaft in reliable working condition.
