Sklar Berlind-Auvard Weighted Vaginal Speculum, 2-1/2 lbs
A weighted 4-1/4 by 1-5/8 inch vaginal speculum at 2-1/2 pounds, used to provide hands free posterior wall exposure during gynecologic surgery.
The Sklar Berlind-Auvard Weighted Vaginal Speculum is a self retaining gynecologic instrument that uses its own weight rather than a handle or clamp to hold the posterior vaginal wall retracted, freeing the surgeon and assistant's hands during vaginal and gynecologic procedures. Measuring 4-1/4 by 1-5/8 inches and weighing 2-1/2 pounds, its curved blade rests in the posterior fornix under gravity, providing steady, consistent retraction throughout the procedure without requiring anyone to hold it in place.
This weighted design is a well established alternative to handheld retractors in gynecologic surgery, particularly useful during vaginal hysterectomy and other procedures where the surgical team's hands are needed elsewhere in the field. The smooth blade surface is shaped to minimize trauma to the vaginal wall while maintaining exposure over an extended procedure.
As with other Sklar gynecologic instruments, it is manufactured for repeated clinical use with standard hospital sterilization between cases, and is a standard fixture in gynecologic operating room sets alongside other vaginal retractors.
