Sklar Barraquer Speculum, 15mm Adult Heavy
A 15mm adult heavy ophthalmic speculum used to hold the eyelids open securely and stably during cataract and other eye surgery. It is supplied for repeated sterilization and reuse in hospital and clinic settings.
The Sklar Barraquer Speculum is an ophthalmic lid speculum sized at 15mm and built as an adult heavy version, used to hold the eyelids open securely and stably during cataract surgery and other ophthalmic procedures. Unlike a spring loaded, self retaining speculum, the Barraquer pattern is a fixed wire design that the surgical team positions and, in some techniques, may secure with tape or sutures, providing a rigid, stable opening that does not move once set, which some surgeons prefer for procedures requiring absolutely fixed exposure.
The heavier adult build gives it the rigidity needed to maintain that fixed position throughout a full length procedure without flexing under the pressure of the eyelids. This speculum is used by ophthalmic surgeons across a range of anterior and posterior segment procedures where stable, hands free lid retraction is required, and it is a standard fixture of ophthalmic surgical trays in hospitals and dedicated eye surgery centres.
It is reprocessed between cases following routine ophthalmic instrument sterilization.
