The Sklar Barr Rectal Retractor is a self retaining retractor fitted with a Tru-Grip ratchet mechanism and 2-3/4 inch blades, used to hold the anal canal open and provide clear exposure during colorectal and anorectal surgical procedures. The ratchet allows the surgeon or assistant to lock the retractor at the degree of opening needed for the specific procedure, whether that is hemorrhoidectomy, fistula surgery, or another anorectal operation, and to maintain that exposure hands free throughout the case.
The 2-3/4 inch blade size is chosen to give adequate visualisation of the anal canal and lower rectum without excessive tissue stretch, balancing surgical access against patient tissue tolerance. This retractor is a standard instrument in colorectal and general surgery trays used for anorectal procedures, relied upon by colorectal surgeons and general surgeons performing this category of surgery in both hospital and dedicated day surgery settings.
It is a mechanical, reusable instrument that is reprocessed between cases following standard surgical sterilization.
