Sklar Balfour Abdominal Retractor, Fenestrated
A self retaining abdominal retractor with fenestrated side blades and interchangeable centre blades, used to hold the abdominal wall open during major abdominal surgery. It is supplied for repeated sterilization and reuse in hospital and clinic settings.
The Sklar Balfour Abdominal Retractor is a self retaining, ratcheted retractor with fenestrated side blades measuring 2-1/4 by 3-1/2 inches deep and a 10 inch spread, along with two interchangeable solid centre blades sized 2-5/8 by 1-3/4 inches and 3-1/4 by 2-3/4 inches, used to hold the abdominal wall open during major open abdominal surgery.
The side blades retract the wound edges laterally while the centre blade, chosen to match the depth of the incision, lifts and holds the upper edge of the wound, giving the surgeon a stable, wide exposure of the abdominal cavity without needing an assistant to hold retractors manually throughout the case.
This self retaining design is especially valuable during lengthy procedures such as major bowel resection, gynecologic oncology surgery, or other extensive abdominal operations where sustained exposure is critical. The Balfour retractor is a long standing standard in general and gynecologic surgery, used by general surgeons and gynecologic surgeons across hospital operating rooms, and is reprocessed as a multi piece set between cases.
