Sklar Abrams Pleural Biopsy Punch, 4mm
A 4mm pleural biopsy punch with a luer lock connection, used to take a tissue sample from the pleura during a diagnostic procedure.
The Sklar Abrams Pleural Biopsy Punch is a diagnostic instrument with a 4mm biopsy jaw and a luer lock connection, built with a 3 1/2 inch shaft and an overall length of 5 1/2 inches, used to take a small sample of pleural tissue for diagnostic testing. The instrument is introduced through the chest wall to reach the pleura, where the hooked or notched jaw catches a piece of tissue as the punch is withdrawn, a technique used to investigate suspected pleural disease such as effusions of unclear cause or suspected malignancy when imaging alone cannot confirm a diagnosis.
The luer lock connection allows the instrument to be used in conjunction with associated equipment during the procedure, and the defined shaft and overall lengths give the clinician a predictable working depth when advancing the punch to the pleural surface. This instrument is used by respiratory physicians and thoracic surgeons performing closed pleural biopsy, and as a reusable instrument it is cleaned and sterilised between uses.
