A 28cm abdominal retractor fitted with a circle blade, used to hold tissue clear of the operative field during abdominal surgery.
The Sklar Abdominal Retractor is a general surgery retractor measuring 28cm, fitted with a circle shaped blade at its working end, used to hold abdominal wall tissue or other structures clear of the operative field during an open abdominal procedure. The circle blade shape spreads the retracting pressure across a curved surface, which can provide a broad, even hold along the edge of an incision compared with a narrower, straight bladed retractor.
The overall length of 28cm gives the surgeon or assistant a comfortable, extended reach when working across a larger abdominal incision, keeping the retracting hand clear of the immediate surgical field. Retractors of this size and shape are used across general, gastrointestinal and gynaecological abdominal surgery wherever a broad, stable exposure of the abdominal cavity is required.
As a reusable stainless surgical instrument, it is a standard component of general surgery instrument sets, sterilised between cases along with the rest of the tray.
