Killian Nasal Speculum for ENT Examination
A Killian nasal speculum used to widen the nostril for clear visualization of the nasal cavity during ENT examination and minor procedures.
The Killian nasal speculum is a diagnostic instrument used in ear, nose and throat practice to gently widen the nostril, allowing the clinician a clear view into the nasal cavity for examination or minor procedures. By spreading the nostril open with controlled, adjustable pressure, the speculum gives the practitioner the visibility needed to inspect the nasal mucosa, septum and other structures for signs of infection, inflammation, polyps or other abnormalities.
This kind of examination is a routine part of ENT consultations, general practice assessments involving nasal symptoms, and minor procedures such as removing a foreign object or performing nasal packing. The speculum's design allows it to be held and adjusted with one hand, freeing the practitioner's other hand to use a light source, additional instrument or perform the procedure itself while maintaining the view into the nostril.
As a reusable stainless steel instrument, it is cleaned and sterilized between patients following standard clinical infection control practice, and it remains a basic, essential tool found in ENT clinics, general practice examination rooms and hospital outpatient departments handling nasal complaints.
