Bionex Thudicum Nasal Speculum, Stainless Steel
An autoclavable stainless steel nasal speculum used by ENT specialists and general practitioners to open the nostril for examination of the nasal cavity.
The Bionex Thudicum Nasal Speculum is a simple, widely used stainless steel instrument that gently opens the nostril to allow a clinician to examine the inside of the nasal cavity. Its two blade design is squeezed to spread the nostril apart, giving a clear view of the nasal septum, turbinates and surrounding tissue during a routine ENT examination or when investigating symptoms such as nasal obstruction, bleeding or discharge.
Because the instrument has no locking mechanism, it relies on the clinician maintaining gentle finger pressure throughout the examination, which keeps the procedure quick and adjustable to the patient's comfort. Made from stainless steel, the speculum is autoclavable, allowing it to be reprocessed through a standard sterilisation cycle and reused across many patients in a busy ENT clinic.
General practitioners, ENT specialists and specialist nurses use the Thudicum speculum as a routine part of nasal examinations in clinics, emergency departments and hospital ENT outpatient departments. As with other reusable stainless steel instruments, it should be cleaned, disinfected and sterilised between each patient in line with the facility's infection control protocol.
