3M Comply Steam Chemical Indicator Strip, Type 4
A Type 4 chemical indicator strip that changes appearance to confirm exposure to gravity and vacuum assisted steam sterilization cycles inside a pack.
The 3M Comply Steam Chemical Indicator Strip is a Type 4 chemical indicator, classified under ISO 11140-1:2014, placed inside instrument packs to give an immediate visual signal that the pack was exposed to steam sterilization conditions. It is designed to monitor gravity displacement and vacuum assisted steam cycles running between 121 and 134 degrees Celsius, which covers the common temperature range used across most hospital and clinic steam autoclaves.
Because it responds to multiple critical process variables rather than a single factor, a Type 4 indicator gives sterile processing staff more confidence than a basic exposure indicator, while still being simpler to interpret than a biological indicator. This strip is used routinely inside wrapped trays, pouches and containers as part of standard pack monitoring practice in sterile processing departments, dental clinics and surgical centres, helping staff visually confirm at the point of unpacking that the load reached expected sterilization conditions before instruments are used on a patient.
