Unlike a basic exposure indicator, a Type 5 integrator tracks multiple critical variables together, specifically time, temperature and the presence of steam, giving sterile processing staff a closer approximation of biological indicator performance while still delivering an immediate visual result at the point of unpacking.
The extender design allows the indicator to be positioned further into a pack or tray, closer to the location considered hardest for steam to reach, which gives a more meaningful check of whether the load's most challenging point was properly sterilized.
