The Sklarlite Olsen Hegar Needle Holder is a 5-1/2 inch instrument with a serrated jaw, built on Sklar's extra light Sklarlite platform. Unlike a standard needle holder, the Olsen Hegar pattern includes an integrated cutting edge near the jaw hinge, allowing the surgeon to both drive the suture needle and cut the suture thread with a single instrument, which can speed up routine closure work by reducing the number of times the surgeon needs to switch tools during suturing.
This combined design is particularly useful in situations where efficiency matters, such as high volume suturing during general surgery or in settings with fewer available assistants to hand instruments back and forth.
