Sklar Walton Plaster Spreader, 3 Blade
A 9 inch, 3 blade plaster spreader used to gently open and separate a plaster cast after it has been cut, easing safe removal.
The Sklar Walton Plaster Spreader is used immediately after a plaster cast has been cut lengthwise, to gently prise the two halves apart so the cast can be lifted away from the limb without further cutting close to the skin. Its three blade design distributes the spreading force across the cast edge more evenly than a two point spreader, reducing the risk of pinching the skin as the cast opens.
At nine inches, it gives the operator enough leverage to open even a thick, well set cast with controlled hand pressure. Plaster spreaders of this kind are used on orthopaedic wards, in fracture clinics and in emergency departments as a standard companion tool to plaster shears during cast removal. Orthopaedic technicians, nurses and doctors use this instrument routinely wherever cast care is part of the clinical workload.
As a reusable stainless steel instrument, it is cleaned and disinfected or sterilized between patients according to the facility's protocol for this class of equipment.
