Sklar TC Cushing Taylor Forceps, Bayonet
A 7 inch bayonet shaped tungsten carbide forceps used to reach and grasp tissue in deep or narrow surgical fields without blocking the view.
The Sklar TC Cushing Taylor Forceps has a bayonet shaped shaft, offset from the handle, that keeps the surgeon's hand and the handle itself out of the direct line of sight into a deep or narrow surgical field. This design is particularly valuable in neurosurgery, where the Cushing and Taylor names originate, letting the surgeon work through a small corridor while still seeing the tip clearly.
Tungsten carbide inserts in the jaws give a durable, precise gripping surface that holds up over repeated sterilization better than plain stainless steel. At seven inches overall, it suits deep cranial or spinal approaches as well as other surgical fields where visibility around the instrument is limited.
Neurosurgeons and their assisting teams rely on bayonet pattern forceps like this one as a standard part of a neurosurgical tray, alongside bayonet scissors and needle holders of similar design. As a reusable instrument, it is cleaned, inspected and steam sterilized between cases.
