Sklar Merit Obstetrical Caesarean Forceps, Rubber Jaws
A 12 inch obstetrical forceps with removable rubber jaws, used by veterinarians to grip and assist delivery of a fetus during caesarean surgery.
The Sklar Merit Obstetrical Caesarean Forceps is a veterinary surgical instrument used to grip and gently guide a fetus during delivery in the course of a caesarean section, providing a secure hold at a critical stage of the surgery. The forceps are fitted with removable rubber jaws, which soften the contact surface against the fetus compared with bare metal, reducing the risk of injury while still allowing a firm enough grip to assist with delivery.
Being removable, the rubber jaw covers can be replaced when worn, extending the useful working life of the underlying metal forceps. Measuring 12 inches, the instrument offers the reach needed to work within the surgical field during an abdominal delivery in large animal species such as cattle. This instrument is used specifically by large animal veterinarians performing caesarean sections, a procedure carried out both electively and as an emergency intervention when normal vaginal delivery is not possible or has failed.
Constructed from stainless steel with replaceable rubber components, it can be cleaned and sterilised between surgical procedures. It is typically stocked in a large animal surgical or obstetric kit.
