Sklar Merit Black Plugger, #0/1, Double End
A Sklar Merit Black plugger, size 0 and 1, double ended with serrated ends, used to condense and pack dental filling material into a tooth cavity.
A plugger is a hand instrument used in restorative dentistry to condense and pack filling material firmly into a prepared cavity, ensuring the material fills the space fully and adapts closely to the cavity walls before it sets. This Sklar Merit Black plugger is double ended, providing size 0 at one end and size 1 at the other on a single handle, and both working ends are serrated to help grip and pack the material without it sticking excessively to the instrument tip.
It is used by dentists during direct restorations, particularly with amalgam or similar packable filling materials, wherever firm, even condensation is needed to avoid voids in the completed filling. Having two sizes on one handle lets the dentist move between a finer and slightly larger condensing surface without switching instruments mid procedure.
It should be cleaned and sterilised between patients following standard dental instrument reprocessing protocols.
