Sklar Intestinal Forceps, Heavy 2-1/2 Inch Jaw
A 10 inch heavy duty forceps with a long 2-1/2 inch jaw, used to grasp or occlude bowel and other intestinal tissue during abdominal surgery.
The Sklar Intestinal Forceps is a heavy pattern surgical instrument measuring 10 inches overall, with an extended 2-1/2 inch jaw designed to span a broader section of tissue than a standard general purpose forceps. This longer jaw allows the surgeon to gently occlude or hold a length of bowel without the tissue slipping free between the jaw tips, which is important when working with the intestines during abdominal procedures such as resections or anastomosis.
Its heavy build gives the surgeon confidence when applying sustained pressure across the jaw length, while the design is still intended to minimize crushing trauma compared to a standard clamp. It is used by general and colorectal surgeons during open abdominal surgery whenever a length of bowel needs to be controlled or isolated from the surgical field.
As a reusable stainless steel instrument, it must be cleaned and sterilized between cases following standard reprocessing protocols, with the jaw serrations checked to ensure they still grip evenly along their full length.
