Sklar Incision Scissors, Probe Point 5-1/2 Inch
A 5-1/2 inch scissors with a blunt probe point tip, used to enlarge small incisions or drainage openings without risking injury to underlying structures.
The Sklar Incision Scissors is a 5-1/2 inch surgical scissors fitted with a probe point tip, a rounded, blunt end on one blade that lets the surgeon slide the tip into a small opening and extend the incision without the sharp point risking damage to structures beneath the skin. This design is favored for controlled, superficial cutting tasks such as enlarging a stab incision, opening an abscess or extending a small wound where precision and safety matter more than raw cutting speed.
It is used across general surgery, minor procedure clinics and emergency settings wherever a clinician needs to lengthen an opening in a guided, protected manner. The probe point also helps the surgeon feel resistance from tissue layers as the blade advances, giving tactile feedback during the cut. As a reusable stainless steel instrument, it should be cleaned and sterilized between patients according to standard surgical instrument reprocessing protocols, and the blade edges should be checked periodically to confirm they still close and cut cleanly.
