Sklar Eiselsberg-Mathieu Needle Holder
A seven inch needle holder with a spring handle mechanism, used to grip and drive a suturing needle securely during surgical wound closure.
The Sklar Eiselsberg-Mathieu Needle Holder is used to grasp a curved suturing needle and guide it through tissue when closing an incision or placing internal sutures during surgery. The Mathieu pattern is distinguished by its spring-loaded handle, which the surgeon squeezes to open and close the jaws rather than working a conventional ratcheted ring handle, an action some surgeons find faster and less fatiguing over a long procedure involving many suture passes.
At seven inches, it offers a practical length for general surgical use. Needle holders of this kind are a core item on virtually every surgical instrument tray, used by surgeons and surgical assistants throughout a case, from deep internal sutures to final skin closure. It is manufactured in stainless steel and, like other Sklar instruments, is designed for the repeated cleaning and sterilisation cycles of hospital and clinic instrument processing, remaining in service across many procedures over its working life.
