Sklar Caspar Screwdriver, 7-7/8in
A 7-7/8 inch screwdriver used to drive fixation screws or pins during anterior cervical spine surgery as part of the Caspar instrument system.
The Sklar Caspar Screwdriver is a 7-7/8 inch driving instrument used to place fixation screws or pins associated with the Caspar distraction technique during anterior cervical spine surgery. Its length is suited to reaching through the retracted surgical corridor created by the Caspar cervical retractor, allowing the surgeon to engage and drive a screw without the handle interfering with the retractor blades or surrounding soft tissue.
This screwdriver works alongside the drill bit, distractor and retractor from the same Caspar system, forming a coordinated set of instruments used for temporary vertebral body fixation during discectomy and fusion procedures. Precise, controlled screw placement is important in cervical spine work because of the proximity of neural and vascular structures, so a well fitted, correctly sized driver reduces the risk of screw slippage or thread stripping.
Neurosurgeons and orthopedic spine surgeons use this instrument routinely in anterior cervical cases, and it is treated as a reusable stainless steel surgical instrument, cleaned, inspected and sterilized between uses like the rest of the Caspar system.
