Sklar Cairns Hemostatic Scalp Forceps, Serrated
A 6 inch serrated forceps with a straight tip, used to clamp scalp vessels and control bleeding during cranial and neurosurgical incisions.
The Sklar Cairns Hemostatic and Scalp Forceps is a six inch forceps with serrated, straight jaws used primarily to control bleeding from the scalp during cranial surgery. The scalp carries a rich blood supply, and once an incision is made the edges bleed readily, so forceps of this pattern are applied along the cut edge to clamp small vessels and hold the scalp flap back at the same time.
The serrated jaw grips the tough scalp tissue securely without slipping, and the straight tip allows an even line of forceps to be placed along the length of an incision. It is available in more than one size to suit different incision lengths and surgeon preference. This instrument is used by neurosurgeons during craniotomy and other cranial procedures, generally applied in a row along the scalp edges early in the case and left in place until closure.
Like other forceps used near the skin, it is cleaned and sterilised between cases as part of the routine cranial instrument set.
