Sklar Bechert-McPherson Tying Forceps, Angled
An angled 83mm ophthalmic forceps with a flat tying platform, used to grasp and tie fine suture during cataract and other eye surgery.
The Sklar Bechert-McPherson Tying Forceps is a microsurgical instrument built specifically for handling and tying the very fine suture used in ophthalmic surgery, where standard forceps tips are too coarse to manage the thread without damaging it. Its defining feature is a flat platform at the tip, against which the suture can be pressed and tied securely without the thread slipping or fraying, a common problem with pointed forceps tips used for the same task.
Measuring 83mm with an angled shaft, it keeps the surgeon's hand out of the visual field under the operating microscope while still allowing precise placement at the tying site. This instrument is a standard fixture in cataract, corneal and other anterior segment eye surgery where sutures need to be tied under magnification.
Like other fine ophthalmic instruments in the Sklar range, it is manufactured to close tolerances and intended for repeated clinical use with appropriate microsurgical sterilization protocols. Ophthalmic surgical trays typically include one or more tying forceps of this style alongside needle holders and other suture handling instruments.
