Sklar Barraquer Fixation Forceps, 4 Inch
A 4 inch ophthalmic forceps used to grasp the sclera or conjunctiva, stabilising the globe during intraocular and extraocular surgery. It is supplied for repeated sterilization and reuse in hospital and clinic settings.
The Sklar Barraquer Fixation Forceps is a 4 inch ophthalmic instrument used to grasp the sclera or conjunctiva and hold the globe steady during intraocular and extraocular surgical procedures. Keeping the eye fixed in position is essential during fine surgical steps such as making an incision, performing a capsulorhexis, or suturing, since even small involuntary eye movements can disrupt precise manoeuvres carried out under the operating microscope.
This forceps has fine, often toothed tips designed to grip the tough scleral or conjunctival tissue firmly enough to provide stable fixation without slipping, while limiting trauma to the tissue at the fixation point. It is a routine instrument in ophthalmic surgery, used by ophthalmic surgeons across a wide range of anterior and posterior segment procedures wherever globe stabilisation is needed.
As a standard component of ophthalmic surgical trays, it is reprocessed and sterilized between cases following the protocols applied to other reusable eye surgery instruments.
