Sklar Bangerter Muscle Forceps
An ophthalmic forceps used to grasp extraocular muscle securely during strabismus surgery and other procedures involving the eye muscles. It is supplied for repeated sterilization and reuse in hospital and clinic settings.
The Sklar Bangerter Muscle Forceps is an ophthalmic instrument used to grasp and hold an extraocular muscle securely during strabismus surgery and other procedures that involve isolating, repositioning, or suturing an eye muscle. Handling extraocular muscle tissue requires a firm but controlled grip, since the muscle needs to be held steady for suture placement or detachment and reattachment without tearing the muscle fibres or the surrounding fascia.
This forceps is shaped to engage the muscle belly or tendon securely across a broad contact surface, distributing grip pressure rather than concentrating it at a single point. It is used specifically by ophthalmic surgeons and pediatric ophthalmologists performing strabismus correction, a common procedure in both pediatric and adult eye surgery, and is typically kept in a dedicated strabismus surgery tray alongside muscle hooks and other related instruments.
As with other ophthalmic instruments, it is reprocessed and sterilized between cases following standard eye surgery protocols.
