Solid tyres are fitted to the large 24 inch spoked rear wheels, giving durability and reducing the risk of punctures compared with an inflatable tyre, while the smaller, swivelling front wheels are manufactured from an extra strength material to withstand everyday manoeuvring and turning. As a self-propelled design, it allows the user to move the chair independently using the rear wheels, rather than relying solely on an assistant to push from behind.
